# Crossed dual-wield HUD icons: archived 2D version

Created 2026-09-06 for the standalone `cef/hud.html` preview. No Pawn, CEF native plugin, server state, weapon skills or ammunition rules were changed.

## Archived assets

| Weapon ID | Pair | Archived PNG | Preserved single |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 26 | Sawn-off shotguns | `26.png` | `../26-single-v1.png` |
| 22 | Colt 45 pistols | `22.png` | `../22-single-v1.png` |
| 28 | UZI | `28.png` | `../28-single-v1.png` |
| 32 | TEC-9 | `32.png` | `../32-single-v1.png` |

This folder preserves the original flat paired PNGs. Weapons 22, 28 and 32 are active again in this original style. Weapon 26 uses the corrected flat pair documented in `../26-dual-fixed-v3.md`. The 3D experiments remain in `../dual-volume-v2/` but are not used by the HUD. The 96px maximum visible dimension, zero CSS rotation, default preview selection 26 and ammo preview values are unchanged.

Scope of the four dual-wield weapon types was checked against the [MTA weapon reference](https://wiki.multitheftauto.com/wiki/Weapons); Colt 45, sawn-off, UZI and TEC-9 have dual-wield clip capacities listed. The HTML prototype does not automatically detect weapon skill or one/two-handed gameplay state.

## Generation and cleanup

Mode: built-in `image_gen.imagegen`, reference-image editing, one separate generation per pair. The original generated files are retained under `C:/Users/pidlu/.codex/generated_images/019f3828-fcdf-7551-b58d-e67018bc7c34/`.

The generator produced a baked-in checkerboard. The user had authorized programmatic background removal for this continuing HUD icon workflow. `tmp/prepare-hud-cutout.ps1` removed connected light checkerboard pixels and explicit enclosed background holes without redrawing the weapons. Each result is a 1254 x 1254 RGBA PNG. Unaccepted seeds were ignored; dark weapon features and the weapon behind another trigger guard were preserved.

`hud.html` includes updated alpha bounds and silhouette outlines for local file previews where canvas readback is blocked. No bitmap stretching or additional perspective transforms are applied.

## 26: Sawn-off shotguns

Reference images for reproduction: `../26-single-v1.png`.

Use case: precise-object-edit / compositing. The attached image is the exact weapon and drawing-style reference. Make a dual-wield HUD icon consisting of EXACTLY TWO identical matching copies of this weapon: two compact double-barrel sawn-off shotguns with short curved grips and no full shoulder stocks. Arrange them as a clear balanced crossed X, one weapon in front and the other behind. One muzzle points to UPPER LEFT and its grip goes toward LOWER RIGHT; the other muzzle points to UPPER RIGHT and its grip goes toward LOWER LEFT. Both barrels point up and away, both grips are closer to the viewer toward the bottom. Mirror the poses symmetrically, with a gentle three-quarter view rather than a deep perspective. Cross them only around their central receivers, leaving BOTH muzzle ends and BOTH grips clearly separate and recognizable. Do not merge the weapons, add extra barrels/guns, or hide a whole gun behind the other. Preserve the reference's clean silver-white and medium-gray nonrealistic 2D videogame illustration, smooth medium-gray outlines and simple broad shading. The back gun may be slightly darker gray to distinguish the overlap, not transparent. Compact balanced composition fitting a SQUARE 1:1 canvas, gun pair centered and filling most of the canvas with an even small safe margin, no clipping. Genuine transparent PNG alpha background with transparent gaps, NO opaque background or painted checkerboard. No text, letters, labels, hands, ammo rounds, badges or extra decorations.
